Gerakan president not ‘running’ to safe seat for GE14
ADS

Teluk Intan MP Mah Siew Keong said he hopes to contest for the same seat and will not run away to contest for a safe seat in the coming 14th general election.

The Gerakan party president said he wanted to continue to sow good deeds and serve the electorate of Teluk Intan if given the opportunity to become a candidate by the BN leadership.

Mah said allegations by local residents that he would contest in a safe parliamentary seat to strengthen his status as the Gerakan president was baseless.

"There is speculation that I might run somewhere safer to strengthen my position as Gerakan president after losing twice in the general election and winning narrowly in the Teluk Intan by-election in 2014.

"The allegations are absolutely baseless. I did not run when I lost, so why should I do so after I won, even if narrowly?" he told Bernama here, today.

Mah lost to DAP candidate, M Manogaran (majority of 1,470 votes) in GE12, and again lost in GE13 to DAP candidate Seah Leong Peng by 7,313 votes.

The Plantation Industries and Commodities minister won the Teluk Intan parliamentary seat in a by-election in May 2014 following the death of the incumbent from cancer.

Teluk Intan-born Mah won after defeating DAP candidate Dyana Sofya Mohd Daud with a 238-vote majority in a straight contest.
