A 29-year-old businessperson with the title of "Datuk Seri", who was charged with allegedly assaulting three People's Volunteer Corps (Rela) members last month, presented RM210,000 for Community Policing Malaysia to its founder Kuan Chee Heng today.

According to The Sun, Liow Soon Hee said he would also leave it to the authorities to decide on calls for him to be stripped of his "Datuk Seri" title.

According to the report, Liow's contribution will go towards supporting university students, community policing efforts in Selangor and building a basketball court in an independent Chinese school in Puchong.

Liow was charged with assaulting three Rela personnel who were on security duty at a Chinese temple in Kampung Baru, Ampang, about 6.30am on Oct 27.

This was allegedly after one of them told Liow, who had parked his car in front of the temple, to move the vehicle, as it was causing traffic congestion. Two other Rela members who came to their colleague's assistance were also allegedly assaulted by Liow.

Liow, who is currently out on bail, could face up to seven years in jail and a fine if he is convicted on four separate charges stemming from the incident.

He is also facing at least two other drug-related charges.

Editor's Note: Amendments have been made to the above article after it was pointed out to Malaysiakini that some of the quotes attributed to Liow in the original report had been taken out of context. The Sun has since retracted the report.
