YOURSAY | ‘The rakyat isn’t really impressed with all this cheap talk.’

DAP rep urges Dr M to apologise to sultans

Raja Chulan: Why must former PM Dr Mahathir Mohamad apologise for something he did not do?

DAP’s Skudai assemblyperson Dr Boo Cheng Hau should go read (listen) carefully to what Dr M actually said. He called PM Najib Abdul Razak a “Bugis pirate”, and not the entire Bugis community.

Mahathir’s political opponents and people who have an axe to grind are twisting and manipulating what he actually said. But I am happy, Dr M is keeping his usual cool.

Hopeful 123: Is Boo really a practising doctor? Because then he should know that Mahathir did not belittle all Bugis people. He trained his guns only at the prime minister.

In any case, what is so insulting about being a pirate? History tells us that there were many of them around back then. Their bravery in maritime warfare is worth mentioning.

But, as with any community, there will also be some black sheep. Mahathir was referring to just one of those.

Wong Fei Hoong: Is Boo speaking on behalf of DAP or himself? This is an issue between Mahathir and the royalty, let him resolve this himself.

Boo shouldn’t be a busybody. If this isn’t DAP’s official stance, he should not get involved. He wasn’t even elected to his party’s central executive committee.

Tekad: The suffering rakyat is not really impressed with all this cheap talk about race, name-calling and all other petty issues; politicians don’t seem to be able to learn this.

The rakyat want to know how their livelihood can be improved, and how they can better provide for their families.

The Analyser: Cracks in the facade. Now that DAP has woken up to the fact that Pakatan Harapan may not be a registered coalition, they are starting to flex their muscles.

But, as usual with DAP, they are concentrating only on the trivial issues.

P Dev Anand Pillai: Perhaps these DAP apologists should get their act straight. Mahathir is the most senior statesman that this nation has ever known.

Yes, he was no angel, he was a tough leader who demanded compliance from all, but he also knows what he is talking about.

History is there for all to see, it is only us who pick and choose or even distort history to suit ourselves. So, there is nothing that he has to apologise for.

Furthermore, Umno-BN is going to win the general election anyway, so what is the big deal?

Tommy: Boo should know that there are proper channels to deal with this within the Harapan coalition.

Yes, this issue warrants action, but it is better to discuss it internally. He shouldn’t just dig something up for the sake of publicity.

Anonymous 459: Mahathir is so invincible that he seemingly doesn’t have to abide by the law.

What a pity that a sultan’s decree is not being followed through and investigated effectively by authorities and Royal Malaysian Police (PDRM); they seem to be so effective on other perceived insults against royalty.

Is Mahathir still sitting on the secrets of the powers-that-be, that it would do more harm than good to cross him?

TC Chan: If only politicians thought more and talked less. That is my Christmas wish.

Anonymous 2469701494820788: The Chinese also need an apology from those who demand they "balik Tongsan".

Gov't blames DAP, Bersatu for delay in Harapan's registration

Ikan Merah: Both Bersatu and DAP are official and legal political parties in Malaysia. Based on this, why can't the Harapan coalition be approved when all its component parties are official and legal? It makes no sense.

Until either of the parties is disqualified, deregistered or declared illegal, Harapan should be allowed to register as a coalition.

Anonymous 788831449650206: Indeed, once the form is completed and given, ROS must do its job. It is not up to the registrar’s discretion, for DAP and Bersatu are registered political parties.

The officers of DAP and Bersatu are citizens. Citizens have rights. The registrar is only a record keeper, not a magistrate or a judge.

Wiraat: It will make no difference. Once all these minor issues have been corrected, the Registrar of Societies (ROS) will find another reason to delay Harapan’s registration.

Tekad: So you need the Home Ministry secretary-general to give the information to Harapan leaders, for it looks like ROS has no power except to carry out instructions.

Fair Man: The Home Ministry and ROS should stop this blame game. As a government department, they should have called the Harapan leadership and explained to them why the application to register the coalition could not be processed.

It is totally irresponsible and inefficient on their part to only reveal the situation when the Harapan leadership asked for a meeting.

As civil servants who earn their living from taxpayers’ money, they should be accountable to them and not to their political master. Remember, kerja itu ibadah (work is worship).

Chokstone: How powerful is the ROS, that it can bully the party that we are warned are going to “take over” the nation soon?

Spirit of Malaya: Yes, there seems to be a systemic failure of public servants in Malaysia. Only the voters can correct this.
