Dr M responds to attacks on grandaughter

Former prime minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad said he too can dig up dirt after critics highlighted the alleged lavish lifestyle of his granddaughter.

Mahathir added that he was also prepared to declare his own assets if he were to contest in the 14th general election, but was unsure if it will happen.

This was after PKR vice-president Rafizi Ramli said some 30 prospective Pakatan Harapan election candidates, including some incumbents, will be declaring their assets.

Deputy Minister in the Prime Minister's Department Razali Ibrahim urged patience in the police investigation into the 1MDB matter.

On whether the MACC will probe its own chief Dzulkifli Ahmad for his trips to Bali and Hong Kong, Razali said to wait for police to first establish whether the claims were true.

Harapan to camp at Parliament over high fuel prices

Fuel prices hit a new high under the weekly float system with RON95, RON97 and diesel now at RM2.38, RM2.66 and RM2.25 per litre, respectively.

Amanah Youth vice-chief Shazni Munir Mohd Ithnin confirmed Harapan Youth will go ahead with plans to camp outside Parliament next week in protest against the high fuel prices.

Finance Minister II Johari Abdul Ghani said the government was mulling to increase the BR1M cash aid amid rising fuel prices.

Johari also promised to look into complaints that Syarikat Perumahan Negara Bhd disallowed applicants of affordable housing from seeking endorsement from opposition MPs.

Zamihan hit with multiple suits

The Court of Appeal dismissed controversial preacher Zamihan Mat Zin's appeal against a High Court decision that found him to be an unreliable witness and ordered him to pay RM50,000 in damages for defaming local NGO Syria Care.

Canadian Muslim preacher Abu Ameenah Bilal Philips filed a RM1 million suit against Zamihan for a Facebook post calling him an "international terrorism supporter".

A mutual legal assistance request from the Attorney-General's Chambers or Interpol's help are among two means to enforce a six-month jail sentence against lawyer VK Lingam who was found guilty of contempt of court. The disbarred lawyer is not in the country.

A member of the Johor royalty Tunku Nick Tazuddin Izwan Syah Tunku Qadir had his jail sentence reduced from four years to two years by the Court of Appeal for seriously injuring a national boxer.

The Land Public Transport Commission (Spad) said it had presented to the Johor Sultan three alignment proposals for the Rapid Transit System that will link Johor and Singapore.
