Former lecturer detained for insulting PM, wife on social media

A former lecturer at a private university was detained by police on suspicion of humiliating the prime minister and his wife by modifying an image on social media.

Bukit Aman CID director Wan Ahmad Najmuddin Mohd said the 58-year-old male suspect was detained at his residence on Jalan Dang Wangi, Kuala Lumpur, at 9.45pm yesterday.

The suspect was detained to help in the investigation and the case was being investigated under Section 504 of the Penal Code and Section 233 of the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998.

“I advise the public not to upload any remark or image which can bring shame to others,” Wan Ahmad Najmuddin said when contacted by Bernama.

Wan Ahmad Najmuddin said the suspect was remanded three days from today until Tuesday.
