Flamboyant cosmetics millionaire Hasmiza Othman, who is better known as "Datuk Seri Vida", intends to adopt the 18 survivors of the Darul Quran Ittifaqiyah Tahfiz School fire in Jalan Keramat Hujung, last week.

Bernama quoted Vida as saying that she also intends to take the victims to perform the umrah (minor haj), in the near future.

"I would like to adopt the children and take them to my house in Ipoh, Perak, for a month, to cure their trauma and to calm them after the fire.

"Only those who have undergone such trauma will know the pain," she told reporters after visiting the tahfiz school last night.

Vida lost two of her children, aged 10 and 11, in a fire, four years ago.

According to Vida, she got the idea (to adopt the victims and take them to umrah), after getting feedback from netizens on ways to help the boys overcome the trauma from the tragedy.

She said eight staff members of the tahfiz school will also join the umrah trip with them.

Vida further expressed interest to bring all the victims for a holiday.

The fire in the wee hours of last Thursday, which has since been established as arson, killed 21 students of the religious school, aged between six and 14, and two wardens.

Seven youths, aged from 11 to 18, are currently under police custody to facilitate investigations.
