Ultimately, the billions for IPIC are paid by taxpayers
ADS

YOURSAY | ‘And why are we paying IPIC if we had already paid Aabar BVI?’

Tony Pua: How did 1MDB pay IPIC?

Dont Just Talk: MO1 (Malaysian Official 1) can cheat some of the people some of the time but not all the people all the time.

The 1MDB financial scandal, where US$3.5 billion was stolen from the Malaysian people according to US Department of Justice (DOJ), is just too huge a hole for MO1 to cover up.

Honest and hard-working Malaysians are angry to see MO1 on prime news advising civil servants not to take money which does not belong to them.

For that, we salute 60 years of Merdeka, where the value of our ringgit has depreciated to RM4.30 to US$1 and RM3.19 to S$1.

Kleptomaniac: What services have Abu Dhabi’s International Petroleum Investment Company (IPIC) rendered to Bandar Malaysia? What sort of joint venture did 1MDB enter into with IPIC that required 1MDB to pay IPIC non-stop?

In August, 1MDB paid US$660 million and come December, it will have to pay another US$600 million. This is on top of the many billions already paid to allegedly fake bank accounts!

Why must 1MDB pay twice to IPIC? Is this what Najibnomics is about?

Zefray222: Kleptomaniac, while you wait, the rest of the Malaysians who worked to make this country great will enjoy themselves.

It’s so sad to see a frustrated Malaysian like you waiting day in and day out to see Malaysia fail, and all the time not realising that you want your brothers to fail.

China is a great investor and to think that they will colonise Malaysia is trying to be stupid and ignorant at the same time. My advice, you can choose your politics and your politicians, but don’t be traitorous to the point of wanting to see Malaysia fail.

DAP leader Lim Kit Siang has been saying this for 50 years now, and yet we have prospered. We will prosper for another 50 years, and you know what, we don't need people like you to help us.

Basically: Yes, the bigger question 1MDB and BN have failed to answer is why they are paying IPIC if they already paid Aabar BVI (British Virgin Islands), which they claimed to be part of IPIC.

Kim Quek: Indeed, the persistent refusal to disclose the source of funds to settle the IPIC debts has validated allegation that the so-called investment units are phony, thus re-affirming the universal knowledge that most of the some RM50 billion borrowed by 1MDB has been stolen, making this the world’s greatest and most sensational financial fraud.

What a Merdeka gift for the Malaysian people on this 60th anniversary of the country’s independence!

The Mask: Why is that only the opposition and the rakyat are asking where 1MDB got its money to pay up IPIC? Shouldn't the MCA and MIC and Gerakan be asking the same question?

Aren't they representing the rakyat too? Shame on you.

Anonymous 2460391489930458: The fact that Prime Minister Najib Razak did not make an earth-shattering announcement – in his typical exaggerated fashion – on this repayment to IPIC shows he has (again) something to hide.

The source of the money is definitely from our country's coffers. Everyone knows MO1 would make an elephant out of an ant if only he had an ounce of good news on his side.

He is only discreet if he does something he's not supposed to, or doesn't do the thing he's supposed to. That's how flighty he is. God save Malaysia.

Justice: How did Malaysia – that is, 1MDB and the Finance Ministry – end up having to make this huge payment to IPIC? And was the payment made using taxpayers’ money? Please Najib, give us taxpayers an explanation.

The Customs Department and the Inland Revenue Board (IRB) are now trying to squeeze more from taxpayers although we are already heavily burdened by the six percent GST, and the skyrocketing costs of basic essential goods and services while our income and salary are stagnating or dwindling.

Meanwhile, the government is happily spending to buy our votes for GE14 and using our money to endlessly paying this and that debt, including billions of ringgit to IPIC.

Chokstone: This is definitely not from the 1MDB rationalisation programme or the selling of its mysterious "units." There is nothing left that’s worth money for 1MDB to sell.

Otherwise, MO1 would have made a proud announcement of what rationalisation programme that had succeeded in the coming up with this amount. There is no doubt, it came from only one source, that is the public coffers.

Cogito Ergo Sum: If they paid them in "units," IPIC would find out that they are worthless within one week. On the other hand, the money is to be paid by several generations of Malaysians to come.

Sixty years ago, who would imagine that Malaysia would be struggling to pay its external debts to a foreign company. Along the way, we have taken the path well-trodden by many a failed state.

HaveAGreatDay: Sigh...DAP Petaling Jaya Utara MP Tony Pua, thank you for continuing to knock on closed doors.

Does it really matter where 1MDB got its money? We all know it's ultimately the rakyat's money, no matter how 1MDB chooses to phrase its source.

Spinning: We will have to wait for the independently audited financial statements by a "reputable" audit firm for FY2013, 2014, 2015, 2016, 2017 to know the source of 1MDB funding.

I hope we can get these reports soon.

Jedi Yoda: Common sense will tell us that if one has good and valid answer to rebut whatever accusations made against a person, he or she will eagerly answer the questions without any hesitation.

Jaycee: We like to think that IPIC was paid with money from the sale of the super yacht, apartments in New York and London, and not forgetting the pink diamond. But that would be wishful thinking.
