Spotlight on PKR-PAS ties

Efforts by some PKR leaders in courting PAS to form an electoral pact continues to attract internal opposition, most prominently in Kelantan PKR where grassroots are trying to depose their allegedly "PAS-friendly" leaders.

PKR president Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail believed that PAS will lose public support if they go ahead with plans to field 42 state candidates in Selangor at the upcoming general election.

She also said William Leong's decision to resign from the PKR political bureau – in protest against the party’s negotiation with PAS – has not been officially accepted yet.

PAS president Abdul Hadi Awang said those who actually read his infamous "Amanat Hadi" (Hadi's address) had sought his forgiveness.

A report by Singapore’s Straits Times claimed that Hadi and Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak have been speaking over the phone almost daily in recent months and they plan on capturing Selangor together.

Several PAS leaders have rubbished the claims made in the report and stressed that BN and Umno was still their enemy.

Dr M not a 'Ketuanan Melayu' fan

Former prime minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad told a public forum that he did not believe in "ketuanan Melayu" because people must work hard and have good values to be a "tuan" (master).

Mahathir also proposed that Pakatan Harapan should initiated a new national car programme to replace Proton, which is now under China's control.

Communications and Multimedia Minister Salleh Said Keruak responded by urging Mahathir to be realistic and stop dwelling in the past because the automotive industry was very competitive now.

Hadi said a "former leader" acted against Islam leading to the deaths of 18 people during the Memali incident in 1985.

Najib assured Malaysians that the country will not go bankrupt, citing how it managed to survive foreign exchange scandals in the 1990s.

Youth and Sports Minister Khairy Jamaluddin was granted an audience with Sultan Ibrahim Iskandar of Johor and crown prince Tunku Ismail.

The sultan had earlier accused one of the national polo team members – without naming Khairy – of exploiting the team for his own publicity.

Penang Chief Minister Lim Guan Eng has been given 48 hours to apologise for uttering "illegal detainment by the MACC."
