KINI ROUNDUP | Here are the key headlines you may have missed yesterday, in brief.

Najib makes a move on PKR stronghold

Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak visited the PKR stronghold of Permatang Pauh and urged the constituency to abandon the opposition party, claiming that development there had stalled.

Several PKR Youth activists who planned to protest Najib's visit were arrested in a pre-emptive action by police.

PKR Youth vice-chief Fahmi Fadzil condemned the arrests, stating that all they had wanted to do was to hold placards.

Najib joked during his visit that there were no flying chairs, unlike during Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia's ‘Nothing to Hide 2’ forum last week.

Permatang Pauh PAS confirmed its leader Omar Hassan was present at Najib's function but slammed critics for being "politically immature".

MACC seized RM100k from Isa's home

The MACC seized some RM100,000 from former Felda Global Ventures Holdings (FGV) chairperson Isa Samad's home and also raided his office at the Land Public Transport Commission (Spad).

Analysts said Isa’s waning influence as an Umno warlord had paved way for MACC’s action against him.

PAS deputy president Tuan Ibrahim Tuan Man warned that Isa's arrest may be a pre-election ploy, pointing out that a federal minister, Kasitah Gaddam, was also arrested and charged before the 11th general election but he was eventually freed.

Deputy Home Minister Nur Jazlan Mohamed claimed the Human Rights Commission (Suhakam) had produced an "outdated" report about the deplorable condition of the Ayer Molek lock-up in Johor, claiming that it was closed last year.

Suhakam rebutted this, stating that its commissioners had visited the place on July 31.

The Prisons Department denied that PKR de facto leader Anwar Ibrahim was able to issue a statement on the Nothing to Hide 2 fracas, stating that he was under guard at all times when brought to court.

Anwar's lawyer R Sivarasa said Anwar did indeed release the statement but declined to say how he got the message to his party which released it.

Local banks steer clear of TRX

Local banks are reportedly steering clear of the Tun Razak Exchange (TRX) project despite an effort to raise funds for the development.

Bersatu chairperson Dr Mahathir Mohamad's bid to remove two members of the Royal Commission of Inquiry (RCI) on the forex scandal was dismissed by the Kuala Lumpur High Court. He planned to appeal the decision at the Court of Appeal.

Mahathir is also challenging the extension of Chief Justice Md Raus Sharif which will be heard by the Kuala Lumpur High Court on Oct 24.

The former prime minister also reportedly met Persatuan Hindraf Malaysia chief P Waythamoorthy on possible collaboration with Pakatan Harapan.

Mahathir is also expected to speak at a forum at Kuala Lumpur Selangor Chinese Assembly Hall (KLSCAH), a venue Umno Youth threatened to torch when Mahathir was Umno president.

Other Kini bites

DAP parliamentary leader Lim Kit Siang reaffirmed his stance that there should be an RCI on the Memali tragedy.

The Education Ministry had identified 402 schools in the country that are having discipline and drug issues.

A male primary school teacher was charged with having sexual physical contact with a nine-year-old male student.

A pro-Umno NGO lodged a police report against PKR deputy president Azmin Ali for suggesting that the prime minister may have had a hand in the violence at the Nothing to Hide 2 forum last week.

Police questioned PSM activists ahead of a planned protest at a Shah Alam factory.

Looking ahead

Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak will attend a dinner by the Master Builders Association of Malaysia in Petaling Jaya tonight.

Former Bersatu Youth exco Mohamad Taufik Abas is expected to hold a press conference against the party.
