Penang exco remanded five days

Penang executive councillor Phee Boon Poh was remanded for five days to facilitate investigations by the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC), in a decision Phee's lawyers decried as "illegal".

Penang chief minister Lim Guan Eng asked what acts of corruption had Phee committed in sending a letter based on state policy.

Meanwhile in a separate matter, the MACC has impounded Pahang’s entire bauxite stockpile as part of its probe into illegal mining.

MB: Johor won't become second Penang

Johor Menteri Besar Mohamed Khaled Nordin said the state will not become a second Penang, where he claimed development came at the expense of morality.

Khaled, who is also Johor Umno chief, told party members in the Pagoh division to move on from nostalgia for its former division chief Muhyiddin Yassin.

Meanwhile Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak praised PAS for practicing "mature politics", while also expressing his confidence that BN can capture Kelantan, a PAS stronghold.

Najib also pledged RM8.5 million in goodies for the district of Machang in Kelantan.

Deputy Prime Minister Ahmad Zahid Hamidi said Umno was committed to fielding more women in the next general election.
