YOURSAY | ‘Being the proud and stubborn man he is, he has too much pride to openly admit his mistakes.’

Will Dr M make ultimate U-turn if Harapan wins GE?

Dire Straits: Questions have been raised about whether former prime minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad can be trusted to lead the opposition coalition when it comes to ensuring that jailed opposition leader Anwar Ibrahim will become the next prime minister if Pakatan Harapan wins the general election, and whether he might rejoin Umno if Najib leaves the party.

Julius Caesar and his army crossed the Rubicon River in North Italy in 49 BC to confront Pompeii's army in Rome and begin a civil war.

I believe, in this blighted nation, Mahathir has also "crossed the Rubicon". Being the intelligent man that he is, I believe that, deep inside, he can see the vast amount of damage he has inflicted upon this country and feels a certain amount of remorse.

But, being the proud and stubborn man he is, he has too much pride to openly admit his mistakes and apologise. Be that as it may, he is now trying to right some of the many wrongs he had committed.

This can be gleaned from his "covert" admissions (of guilt?) over the past two years, examples of which are the few times he had admitted "regret" for supporting Malaysian Official 1 (MO1) and former prime minister Abdullah Ahmad Badawi, et cetera.

Long-suffering Malaysians have no choice but to take these as signs of his remorse, and hope for the best.

Justice: The ultimate goal is to defeat and replace Umno-BN as the ruling party. In order to reach or attain that goal, we need all the resources and support, even if that comes from the "enemy".

Remember, the "enemy of my enemy is my friend". In a battle or war, it is acceptable even to forage from enemy resources.

Mahathir could be that "enemy of our enemy" and the added available needed resources to forage on to win the battle or the war.

It could also be a "smart black propaganda" of the "enemy" to sow or create suspicion about Mahathir as a bait to split, disunite, destroy or at least wear down the morale of the forces battling Umno-BN.

If history is a lesson, can we learn from how Nelson Mandela, Mahatma Gandhi and Martin Luther King formed or treated "allies" or "friendly forces" in their battle to liberate their people and country?

Hero's welcome for Mahathir in Penang

Trueglitter: The unprecedented and deafening welcome accorded to Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia’s chairperson Mahathir upon his arrival at the party’s Aidilfitri open house in Penang is a clear indication cum loud signal of Umno-BN's impending death knell in Penang during the next general election.

Given the enthusiastic and rapturous reception, especially from the Malay crowd, it is a heartening indication that the many Malay voters who are apparently staunch Umno-BN supporters may have a change of heart, dutifully embrace the ideology of newly-formed Pakatan Harapan and acknowledge the experienced and time-tested nonagenarian at its helm.

Concerned Malaysians are understandably hopeful and confident that this episode will serve as an appropriate and long-awaited catalyst for Malay voters, especially those on the mainland, that will trigger the beginning of a political tsunami in many Malay hinterlands to bring about the desired avalanche of Malay support for Harapan.

Legit: Dalbinder Singh, if your uncle was still alive, he would be with DAP parliamentary leader Lim Kit Siang and the rest of DAP in working with Mahathir for the cause of getting rid of the alleged “pirate and his 40 thieves” and saving this nation from ruin.

You may be too young to understand what is going on under the current regime in Putrajaya. We have to move on from our past and do what is necessary for the future of this country.

DAP ready to hold re-election 'under protest'

GE14 Voter: The DAP is prepared to hold a re-election for its central executive committee (CEC) without forfeiting its right to legal action, according to the party’s letter to the Registrar of Societies (ROS).

For the sake of Pakatan Harapan and winning the next general election, DAP leaders should just hold the fresh elections demanded by the ROS.

DAP may have genuine grievances, but the party is fighting a losing battle anyway. In any case, if you won't bite, don't keep on barking about legal action, et cetera.

It would seem that all the loud noises some key DAP leaders are making are to show their followers how brave and heroic they are, but after that, once the party goes into retreat mode, these leaders lose more credibility. Be wise, not clever.

SAM98: DAP must do as the ROS says to the letter. Don't argue, don't threaten them with lawsuits, just follow their instructions carefully and get it done.

Others have set a trap for you, so don't fall for it.

Drngsc: DAP, quiet acquiescence is not the answer. This is a political misuse of power. You should sue. Otherwise, there will be no end. Let the courts hear the facts and decide.

Maybe the courts will order ROS to meet you and check facts under its supervision. Hopefully, that will end this saga.

Otherwise, you could be facing multiple re-elections until the cows come home, always before the next general election. That is, unless you all win Putrajaya in the 14th general election.

Newday: Reading the last paragraph above - "If the DAP carries through with the re-election, it will be the third election it holds for its leadership for the 2013-2016 term" - made me realise how crazy our system is.

ROS has waited four years before advising that the CEC election process was flawed. According to DAP, the re-election has to be held based on the 2012 membership (as instructed by ROS).

I am sure Dr Who must be involved because it is now over halfway through 2017, which by all accounts is after 2016.

So, why bother? Just fresh elections for 2017-2020 will do because that is how time works. Am I missing something?

Oops, I forgot and now I understand - we must be working on the PAS reverse timeline to 1017.
