Jho Low rues Singapore prosecutors accusation

In a rare press statement, 1MDB-linked individual Jho Low cried foul over Singapore prosecutors accusing him of having victimised 1MDB.

He said this call was politically-motivated and no wrongdoing has been proven.

Meanwhile, DAP's Gelang Patah MP Lim Kit Siang proposes a special parliamentary debate on 1MDB, with Low as a special guests.

Kelantan's public whipping provision raises debate

Deputy Prime Minister Ahmad Zahid Hamidi said there is no need to be concerned over the Kelantan law which allows public whipping, as it only affects Muslims who are syariah offenders.

Former minister Zainudin Maidin snidely said the new law could be a tourist attraction for non-Muslims, who could see "ancient and barbaric" punishments meted out in modern and democratic Malaysia.

Tourism Malaysia Nazri Abdul Aziz said the new provision in Kelantan will not affect tourism because there are many attractive destinations in other states.

Meanwhile, The Bar Council said the law passed by the Kelantan legislative assembly, which among others allowed public whipping, is unconstitutional because amendments to the Syariah Court (Criminal Jurisdiction) Act (Act 355) has yet to be passed in Parliament.

Bersatu Youth leader punched, forced to eat cili padi

Malacca Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (Bersatu) Youth chief Ramlan Meon blamed Umno supporters for allegedly punching him and forcing him to eat chilli padi over a dispute with the Malacca city council.

According to a video of the said incident, this was over dispute on Bersatu flags put up in Klebang, Malacca.
