KINI ROUNDUP | Here are the key headlines from yesterday you may have missed, in brief.

Ex-CJ Ariffin backs judges' extensions

Former chief justice Arifin Zakaria defended the tenure extensions of Chief Justice Md Raus Shariff and President of the Court of Appeal Zulkefli Makinuddin as constitutional and confirmed he had before retiring, advised for the two judges' terms to be extended.

However, Arifin's predecessor Abdul Hamid Mohamed said the extensions were not a smart move as it raises doubts on the judiciary and the two judges' integrity, as well as suggests political interference.

Meanwhile, senior lawyer Muhammad Shafee Abdullah, who previously defended the extensions, rubbished PKR de facto leader Anwar Ibrahim's claim that Shafee was part of the team formulating the legal reasoning to justify the extensions.

Separately, Australia and New Zealand Banking Group is near a deal to sell its stake in Ambank to a pension fund and exit the Southeast Asian nation, in a transaction that could be worth around US$900 million.
