Muhyiddin raises 'Malay tsunami'

Putting a twist on Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak's infamous "Chinese tsunami" theory, Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia president Muhyiddin Yassin said Umno faces a "Malay tsunami" sweeping through the heartlands that used to be Umno strongholds.

Muhyiddin said Malays in the rural areas, which have been the traditional Umno vote bank, are warming up to Bersatu, forcing Umno to use its divisional annual general assembly platforms to attack Bersatu.

The former deputy prime minister also said he was disappointed with Youth and Sports Minister Khairy Jamaluddin, for whom he said had high hopes for, but Khairy now seemed to be toeing the line and not holding Najib to account.

On a related matter, DAP veteran Lim Kit Siang lambasted Khairy for his silence on Johor Crown Prince Tunku Ismail Sultan Ibrahim's open letter lamenting corruption in Malaysia, in which Khairy was also obliquely referred to.

Teresa Kok's final victory at the apex court

Rejecting the government's appeal, the Federal Court upheld the RM350,000 damages awarded to Seputeh MP Teresa Kok for her unlawful detention and arrest under the Internal Security Act in 2008.

On a separate court matter, TV3 editor Kamarudin Mape admitted in the High Court in Kuala Lumpur that reports by Reuters and the Philippines media did not cite PKR de facto leader Anwar Ibrahim as the mastermind behind the 2012 Lahad Datu incursion by militants, as claimed by TV3.
