YOURSAY | ‘Why would anyone call a top cop just to say good morning?’

IGP slams S'wak Report again for 'cooking up' story

CQ Muar: Inspector-general of police (IGP) Khalid Abu Bakar has slammed Sarawak Report for "cooking up" a story to create suspicion among the community against the police, in reference to the latest allegation made by the whistleblower website that K Gopinathan, a key suspect in a graft investigation, contacted Special Task Force for Anti-Vice, Gaming and Gangsterism (Stagg) chief Saiful Azly Kamaruddin 36 times in two months.

Khalid, your statement as the top cop in this country is both humourous and amusing. In defending yourself and rebutting Sarawak Report for "cooking up" stories, you claim to have received "hundreds of calls every day" from people just to say "good morning" and wish you well.

Is your job or occupation as the IGP to receive and entertain such people? If that be the case, little wonder that the entire country's police force is not up to par in keeping up with crimes and other more important issues.

As such, you really ought to be in the entertainment business instead of the police force, owing to your popularity, Mr IGP.

With regard to your accusations about Sarawak Report, you really shouldn't entertain their "falsehoods" any further.

Shouldn't you, as IGP, get down to business by suing the website, or even threatening it with police action? Why hesitate if you reckon you have sufficient grounds to proceed?

Anonymous 2436471476414726: Wow Khalid, you receive hundreds of calls daily from people just to wish you good morning! That should be entered into the Guinness Books of Records.

For heaven’s sake Khalid, you are no ordinary person but a top cop. Why would anyone call a top cop just to say good morning?

Firstly, not many people would have your personal telephone number. Secondly, the position of IGP instils fear in most people, so much so that they would try to stay away from you, least of all give you a courtesy phone call.

The same applies to other senior police officers, including Stagg chief Saiful Azly. Therefore, when key suspects such as Gopinathan allegedly make that many phone calls to the Stagg chief, it is sure to arouse suspicion. These cannot be merely innocent calls wishing him a good morning.

RM2.6 Billion Turkey Haram: Khalid, for a suspect to have one top officer's phone number is already not quite normal, but for the suspect to allegedly have the phone numbers of 20 senior cops listed on his contact list, as Sarawak Report claims, is absolutely abnormal and definitely raises a red flag.

Please do not divert the public’s attention from this issue. Don't tell us that Gopinathan has your and other top officers’ phone numbers just to call and wish you all a good morning.

You could tell that story to the orang utan, and even they might not believe your story.

Negarawan: Khalid was quoted as saying, "A lot of people have called me every day, just to wish me 'good morning, sir', 'how are you today' and wishing me well. I (think I have received) hundreds of calls every morning. Is that suspicious? You can check my phone and make an analysis from it."

This is not sensible. How much time does the IGP spend taking non-essential calls each day? As the IGP, how is he managing his time responsibly at work? Doesn't he have a secretary to filter calls?

Apart from his unethical behaviour, his professional conduct may be of concern too.

Odysseus: He is so popular that he gets hundreds of calls each morning, just to wish him 'good morning' and hear his voice. I am jealous!

Anonymous 2456021485004935: Logically speaking, if a suspect in a graft probe allegedly made contact with top cops as frequently as every other day on average for a period of two months, the authorities should investigate to ensure the integrity of the office-bearers and for the public good.

When the IGP simply dismisses suspicion with a flimsy argument, it will only generate more speculation about corrupt cops looking after one another.

Cmfoo: Against the detailed documentary evidence provided by Sarawak Report, all the IGP can come up with is a “cooking story”?

This shallow rebuttal, if at all, from the country's police chief is just shameful and brings great disrepute to a once-respectable institution.

Odin Tajué: Khalid, the slur effected by the report in Sarawak Report on your police force is so demeaning that it constitutes libel if it is mere fabrication.

That means you ought to take Sarawak Report to court. Your mere brushing off the claim means nothing else but that it is factual.

And, of course, you will never take Sarawak Report to court, because its report is indeed factual.

Anonymous 2350931441161169: A rational response would be to conduct a detailed investigation instead of dismissing the allegations as rubbish.

The IGP doth protest too much. Sarawak Report is more believable. What we need is a change of government for all this dirt to be revealed and removed.

I wonder where are the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) and the few good men left in the police force?

NNFC: Who investigates the police? We are not saying there is wrongdoing, but it appears that there is no watchdog to investigate the police force. I suggest a royal commission of inquiry.

Anonymous 2465861491622056: Someone needs to investigate these morning calls that Khalid gets to understand how come so many people love him and the reasons why they love him.
