KINI ROUNDUP | Here are the key headlines you may have missed yesterday, in brief.

Miranda Kerr returns '1MDB-linked' jewels

Australian supermodel Miranda Kerr has returned to the US Department of Justice (DOJ) jewellery the DOJ said in its civil forfeiture suit was given to her by Malaysian tycoon Jho Low, who acquired them with funds misappropriated from the country’s sovereign wealth fund 1MDB.

According to the DOJ, Kerr was gifted with US$8.1 million worth of jewellery by Jho Low. Her spokesperson told The Wall Street Journal that everything was handed to the US authorities last Friday.

This had led to opposition figures urging the wife of "Malaysian Official 1" to emulate Kerr and surrender the jewels she allegedly received from Low as well.

The DOJ's court filings and publicly available information suggest that Kerr and Low spent time on board the superyacht The Equanimity during the summer months of 2014.

Meanwhile, attorney-general Mohamed Apandi Ali accused the DOJ of having "political motivations" because his department was not contacted on this matter.

However, an opposition MP pointed out that this argument was invalid because apart from the US, numerous other countries have taken action on 1MDB related matters and they all can't be part of a massive conspiracy against Malaysia.
