KINI ROUNDUP | Here are the key headlines you may have missed yesterday, in brief.

Citizenship for Zakir Naik

Islamic preacher Zakir Naik is spoilt for choice. He claims that more than 10 Islamic countries are offering him citizenship and a chance to escape what he described as persecution in his home country of India.

Zakir is a wanted man in India for, among others, money-laundering charges. He is also banned from the US and Canada for his inflammatory speeches, especially when he talks of religions other than his own.

What Zakir doesn’t reveal was whether Malaysia had offered him citizenship. Putrajaya has confirmed that he was granted permanent residency in 2012.

Taoist temple honours Hindraf founder

P Uthayakumar, the founder of the Hindu Rights Action Force (Hindraf) and its most recognisable face, is known for his legal work involving death in custody and Hindu temples facing demolition, which mostly involved the Indian community.

Now, he can add a Taoist temple facing eviction to his résumé.

The Hock Sui Tong Temple in Kepong, Kuala Lumpur, recently won a suit brought by a developer that is trying to take over its land and the temple committee held an appreciation ceremony yesterday.

Uthayakumar hailed the judgment as a landmark decision for freedom of religion in Malaysia.

Rubbing tourists the best way: Urutan Malaysia

Forget Balinese, Thai or Kuatsu massages. Urutan Malaysia, or Malaysian massage, in the new fad, according to several industry experts.

The term first caught public attention when Deputy Minister of Tourism and Culture Mas Ermieyati, back in May, brought up the subject of Malaysia’s very own oil massage.

According to the massage experts, this massage combines techniques from Malaysia’s many ethnic groups while the oil being used is a concoction derived from coconut, ginger, fresh turmeric, lemon grass, galangal, pandan, cinnamon, coriander, redwood and pepper.

Although it all may sound rather yummy, the main benefit of Urutan Malaysia, however, is helping improve one’s lymphatic system, increases physical fitness and reduce anxiety and stress while helping with pain, sleep and rejuvenation.
