ADS

KINI ROUNDUP Here are the key headlines you may have missed yesterday, in brief.

Undocumented migrant workers at Forest City

Chinese national construction workers at the controversial Forest City development complained of being duped into working in Malaysia on social visit passes, after emptying their savings to pay agents to secure them jobs on promises of lucrative wages.

Those who opted out of employment after learning they will be undocumented workers are stranded at the Senai Airport or on the streets.

There are 100 workers' hostel blocks and more under construction, making it difficult to estimate the total number of workers at the site. There are also some workers from Sri Lanka, India and Nepal.

Bandar M'sia deal flop affecting Johor

Johor government-linked company Kumpulan Prasana Rakyat Johor Sdn Bhd (KPRJSB) has shouldered RM178 millon of the RM781 million deposit paid to the Iskandar Waterfront Holdings-China Railway Engineering Corporation consortium, thanks to its 14.4 percent stake in the project, said Skudai assemblyperson Dr Boo Cheng Hau, who urged the state to renegotiate on the project.

Meanwhile, property developer Malton Bhd, whose head Desmond Lim is close to Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak's family, denied discussing with the Employees Provident Fund (EPF) and China's Dailan Wanda group to bid for the Bandar Malaysia project.

In a related matter, 1MDB president Arul Kanda said it was the Finance Ministry's prerogative to remove him from the board of Bandar Malaysia owner TRX City Sdn Bhd as TRX City now belongs to the ministry, and not to 1MDB.
