Police shot and wounded a gunman who fired in the direction of three policemen in Batu 9, Cheras, early yesterday.
Bernama reported the man, who was riding pillion on a motorcycle ridden by an accomplice, sustained gunshot wounds on his hand and abdomen, while attempting to flee the cops in the 1.45am incident.
Kajang police chief ACP Othman Nanyan said the gunman and his accomplice, aged 34 and 39, had refused to heed orders to stop for routine checks by policemen on patrol duty at the highway near Taman Connaught.
The duo were detained after the chase and shootout and the injured man is being warded at the hospital, where he is reportedly in a serious condition.
Checks later revealed the men had 26 criminal records between them, including for gang robbery and drug abuse, and police also seized a homemade pistol and four rounds of ammunition from the suspects, Othman reportedly said in a statement.
The men have been remanded for a week to facilitate the probe into attempted murder.
