The retail price of RON95 and RON97 fuel went up for the third consecutive week since the introduction of the weekly fuel price ceiling mechanism last month.

Effective midnight, the per litre retail price of RON95 will go up by three sen while RON97 will go up by two sen.

This brings RON95 to RM2.27 per litre and RON97 to RM2.54 per litre.

Meanwhile, diesel will retail at RM2.21 per litre, an increase of five sen.

It is the second consecutive increase for diesel as it bucked the trend and saw a price reduction during the first week of this month.

The retail price of fuel is determined based on the Mean of Platts Singapore (Mops) currency average of the previous week.

Global oil price has been on an uptrend following an agreement by the Organization of the Petroleum Exporting Countries (Opec) as well as non-Opec countries to slash production.

The recovery, however, has been slow and uncertain amid the US shale oil companies ramping up production.
