An adviser of a property development company with the title 'Datuk Seri' and his son who has the 'Datuk' title who were remanded for investigation into a land scandal since April 12, were released today.

Sessions and Magistrate's Court Senior Registrar Ahmad Tajudin Zain allowed the 74-year-old adviser and his 47-year-old son, who is also the company director, to be released on the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission's (MACC) bail of RM100,000 each with two sureties.

The proceeding was conducted at a private hospital in George Town as the adviser was receiving treatment for hypertension since last Friday.

According to the MACC statement earlier, the two men were remanded to facilitate the investigation into a land scandal involving Yayasan Bumiputra Pulau Pinang Berhad.

They were believed to have abused their positions to sell land belonging to the company without going through stipulated procedures and at below the market price.

Their action was said to have caused a subsidiary of the company to suffer losses of millions of ringgit since the past few years.
