Why can't present deputy CMs be next CM?

YOURSAY | 'Why must the next CM of Penang be a Chinese?'

Lim urges DAP to endorse Chow as next Penang CM

Anonymous S303: Penang DAP chief Chow Kon Yeow is not even in any high office such as that of deputy chief minister. Why can't the other two deputy chief ministers (DCMs) - Mohd Rashid Hasnon and P Ramasamy - be nominated for chief minister (CM)?

Ramasamy is well educated and experienced, why not him? Why should it be a Chinese?

Suresh Kumar: 'Anonymous 303', you have got to be joking. We may one day see a Chinese Malaysian deputy prime minister but never will you see an Indian Malaysian chief minister in Penang.

Heck! You will never even see an Indian or a Malay secretary-general in DAP. That is multiracial DAP for you. It is anathema to them. Did anyone of the DAP commentators here in Malaysiakini bother to reply you? They won't because they are very multiracial.

Worldly Wise: The retiring leader appointing the successor is a BN-Umno custom. It is not a very good one as we have seen.

Roguekiller: It is not BN-Umno's style. They don't earmark a replacement before hand, they appoint a replacement when the incumbent dies, is ousted or on the very last moment the incumbent retires. It is a foresight.

Should Penang Chief Minister Lim Guan Eng lose the legal fight, which everybody is foreseeing, this is the way to go.

Apple Polishing I Am Not: There is this perception that DAP is anti-Malay. No doubt DAP has the most seats in Penang state assembly (19), yet a Malay is the Deputy CM I.

DAP could have appointed a Chinese to be DCM. So how do you interpret this?

According to Umno information chief Annuar Musa, DAP is splitting the Malays, which is the contrary. Come GE14, DAP will field many Malay candidates, as DAP is a multiracial party, not like Umno, MCA or MIC.

Anonymous #70881335: Right move, Lim Guan Eng. Leaders should not stay longer than two terms or 10 years, no matter how good you are. Thank you.

New Dawn: A wise thing to do. This will ensure a smooth transition and prevent party in-fighting should the current chief minister steps down.

Chow has proven his administrative ability and is deserving of support.

Kit Siang: Why won't Najib learn from China's anti-graft drive

Anonymous_1431954960: Not a single shark would be caught if Malaysia continues to be ruled by BN. If BN is toppled in GE14 there would be a lot of big sharks to be caught.

There would be a whole school of sharks: Father shark, mother shark, anak sharks and cucu sharks. The father shark and mother would surely be the biggest sharks ever caught in history!

By then Malaysians would be very proud to announce to the world we have caught the biggest sharks couple and its family members. We'd house them in our world-class aquarium.

Perhaps, the new government should consider making the aquarium a tourist attraction.

9174382725382: Corruption in Malaysia is rooted so deeply that it is impossible to extinguish it within a year or so without the effort from the top down. The root of the system has tentacles on every sphere of the public sector that even charging a few or a group would enrage the rest of the group.

This was shown a few years ago when charging one person from the customs department. Same thing with Hong Kong in the 1970s. The police were so corrupt that the anti-corruption department wanted to haul up the group but a rebellion from the rest put it to rest.

Hong Kong persevered and was determined reform. Otherwise, they would have been as bad as South America today.

RM2.6 billion Turkey Haram: Fighting graft is one field Najib would hate to learn. He would fail miserably. Anyway, China is not eager to impart their knowledge to him.

In fact, the more corrupted the leaders of a country, the easier it is for it to gain control of the said country.
