Former Deputy Prime Minister Muhyiddin Yassin implored PAS to support one-on-one contests in the next general election at a PAS ceramah in the Islamic party's support base of Terengganu.

Speaking at the PAS ceramah in Kemaman last night, Muhyiddin, who is also Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (Bersatu) president said he was honoured that his three-week-old party was being recognised.

He also revealed that he had consulted with PAS leaders several times before setting up the party.

"Before I formed this political movement, I had negotiated - I met (PAS election director) Mustafa Ali twice. I also met Tuan Ibrahim and also, few weeks ago, (PAS president) Abdul Hadi Awang.

"The objective is to oust BN. What there needs to be is a cooperation between our parties," he said.

Muhyiddin added that he had likewise met PKR and other parties on the matter.

He also praised PAS leaders for stating that the Islamic party had no interest to join forces with Umno.

He added it was time to move beyond negotiations and form something concrete.

"If starting from now, we can sit together and achieve a consensus to form an opposition coalition or an electoral pact, then BN will need to rethink when to hold the general election.

"They may need to delay it," he said.

He also stressed the need for the opposition to set aside their differences.

"If we think in the interest of the rakyat's welfare and the need to save Malaysia from the grasp of untrustworthy leaders, then we can set aside our differences.

"Let us look ahead on how to ensure the welfare of the people," he said.

The ceramah was aired live through Facebook.
