The Pahang state legislative assembly was today taken by surprise when Menteri Besar Adnan Yaakob suddenly took off his shoes and lifted his left leg to his face.

Adnan then proceeded to place a pen between his toes while his leg was raised and demanded whether members in the house could do the same, according to a report by Sin Chew Daily.

"Can you do this 'pen between the toes' action?" he reportedly demanded from across the floor.

The menteri besar pulled off the bizarre stunt to make a point that he was in perfect health.

"Throughout my almost 18 years as menteri besar and 30 years as state assemblyperson, my health has been very good but recently there have been accusations that I'm suffering from poor health," he was quoted as saying.

Adnan said he was puzzled by such rumours and assured that he was in good health.

"My body is still in good condition, you can see it from this action," he said in reference to his unconventional leg position.

Bilut state assemblyperson Chow Yu Hui, when contacted, said he was baffled by the menteri besar's behaviour.

"I never thought he would do something like that.

"It was shocking and unexpected," he said.

Earlier, Adnan took aim at PKR for accusing him of corruption over the sale of the Kuantan Parade shopping complex, which was owned by a state government-linked company.

He warned that he would not hesitate to initiate defamation suit against those who made such accusations.

He denied wrongdoing and welcomed the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) to investigate the matter.
