BN’s “malicious slander” against the Penang government is like a barking dog, but it will not cover up 1MDB’s biggest scandal which is now under scrutiny of the US government, said Chief Minister Lim Guan Eng.
“Umno may have the right to recapture Penang in the coming national polls (GE14), but do not think that the people are stupid to believe BN’s malicious slander that the coalition is clean whereas Pakatan Harapan or DAP is corrupt,” Lim said in a statement today.
Lim was referring to the latest case involving DAP Sungai Pinang assemblyperson Lim Siew Khim’s father who allegedly received bribe money from several individuals in return for public housing units.
Lim said BN did not want to admit that the bribe money paid by the victims failed to secure them low-cost homes from the state as they did not qualify for the units.
“This shows that Penang’s procedures are effective to ensure that only those who qualify will be successful in obtaining the units,” Lim said.
“Where is the corruption in the state government when those who paid coffee money did not get the units?” he asked.
“It is a criminal case involving cheating between individuals and between those who paid and received the money,” he said.
“How can this involve the state government when Penangites did not lose as housing units are not given to those who do not qualify nor are they given to those who pay coffee money?” Lim asked.
Siew Khim’s 68-year-old father, Lim Keat Seong was hauled up by the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission, and remanded for eight days.
Penang state executive councillor on housing, Jagdeep Singh Deo, has urged victims who paid money to obtain housing units to lodge police reports.
Jagdeep said that only those qualified for public housing would receive the units as the selection process was carried out by a committee with eight Pakatan representatives.
BN has continued to attack the Penang government and urged Siew Khim to resign from her seat, while she has distanced herself from her father, saying he has created trouble for her family.
