PAS vice-president Idris Ahmad is baffled by the police's decision not to investigate Umno Youth vice-chief Khairul Azwan Harun's report on an alleged conspiracy to topple the prime minister.
Idris said the report concerns the country's safety and dignity, since it implicates former Bank Negara governor Zeti Akhtar Aziz, former Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission chief Abu Kassim Mohamed and former attorney-general Abdul Gani Patail in the conspiracy.
“This is not a report on stolen chicken eggs nor is it a false report on a stolen car.
“It's about the country's safety and sovereignty as the trio had supposedly leaked information to United States agencies including the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI),” said Idris in a Facebook post today.
On Tuesday, inspector-general of police Khalid Abu Bakar said police would not be investigating Khairul Azwan's report as it was based on assumptions.
But Khalid added that the Umno Youth leader would not be investigated for lodging a false report.
“Why were (investigations) into the report halted just like that? Is it because Khairul is Umno Youth vice-chief or because (some) are scared that secrets will be revealed?" said Idris.
“Enough is enough, inspector-general of police. The country is already facing a crisis of confidence with the authorities, (so) why was the case let off?”
Yesterday, Perak Amanah Youth lodged a police report against Khairul Azwan over his allegedly false report on the matter.
Amanah Youth said it would mobilise all of its state chapters to lodge similar reports against the Umno Youth leader.
Meanwhile, Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak, who is also Umno president, said last week that Khairul Azwan's actions did not represent the party, while Umno Youth chief Khairy Jamaluddin said his deputy had acted on an individual basis.
