Tenaga Nasional Berhad (TNB) has invited a businessman who had lodged a police report for being charged RM6,128 for an allegedly tampered electricity meter, to present his evidence to them.

However, TNB personnel had adhered to the standard operating procedures and guidelines in issuing the fine, said TNB's corporate affairs and communications in a statement today.

TNB said on June 20, they made an unscheduled check on the complainant's meter and found "solid proof" that the meter had been tampered with.

Hence they had cut businessman Soh Jo Yee's supply and issued him the fine.

Soh, at a press conference at Segambut MP Lim Lip Eng’s service centre in Bandar Manjalara, Kepong last Saturday, claims he has been wrongly fined.

“They (TNB) had given me proof that my meter has no problem in 2015, but now they claim that my meter has been tampered with since 2014,” said Soh, who runs a car wash at Jinjang Utara, Kuala Lumpur.

He added he had only started renting the shop lot in July 2015, after the alleged tampering.

TNB today invited Soh to approach them on July 29 with his evidence.

"If the user has any new evidence that he had not tampered with the meter, TNB is willing to meet the user," said the department.
