A concert won't derail your faith, DAP Youth tells PAS Youth

DAP Youth has ticked off its counterpart from PAS for what it called the PAS Youth wing’s "cheap publicity" stunt in protesting the coming Selena Gomez concert at the eleventh hour.

DAP Youth argued that the Islamic party's Youth wing does not need to intervene in the private lives of Malaysians and going to a concert will not actually damage a person's faith in religion.

"PAS Youth should acknowledge that Malaysians are able to think and evaluate for themselves any form of entertainment. A person won't lose his or her faith just by attending a concert.

"There is no need for PAS Youth to intervene in private matters of Malaysians. And they need to respect that," DAP Youth executive secretary Muhammad Shakir Ameer said in a statement.

The illogical protest by PAS Youth against the Selena Gomez concert shows that it has nothing else constructive to offer to Malaysians but to create cheap political publicity, Muhammad Shakir said.

"When the organisers sought permission for her ( Gomez) to hold her concert here, PAS did not protest until the very last minute. Isn't this a cheap publicity stunt?

"PAS Youth should have made known its objections prior to the Home Ministry's approval, rather than protest at the very last minute, when tickets have been sold and thousands of ringgit spent by promoters for the concert, which is next week," the statement says

DAP Youth also said that the concert was actually a boon to local traders and a boost to the local economy, as well as promotes Shah Alam and the state as a liveable state and recreational city.

Based on PAS' logic of protesting the concert, it means the Internet, television, radio and any other media should be banned as well for promoting Gomez, the socialist party's Youth wing further argued.

Yesterday, the PAS Youth and Muslimah wings both issued a protest against the ‘Selena Gomez Live in Malaysia’ concert, scheduled to be held at the Melawati Stadium in Shah Alam on July 25, for going against the spirit of the Hari Raya month of Syawal and promoting wild and sexy acts.

PAS has previously protested against other concerts before, which it viewed as going against Islamic decorum.
