Between Guan Eng and Najib, the double standard is glaring

YOURSAY | ‘Apandi, where is your conscience? But you don't seem to care, do you?’

AG to lead prosecution to charge Penang CM

HaveAGreatDay: Corruption is corruption, be it a paltry sum of about RM2.6 million for the purchase of a house against a RM2.6 billion ‘donation’.

Yes, LGE (Lim Guan Eng) should and must be charged if there is evidence of wrongdoing in this purchase. I have no issues with that.

But when you can clear your boss, saying he has done no wrong in the RM2.6 billion donation matter, you really have no respect for the rule of law and are wrong to expect the rakyat to keep quiet in the face of such outright violations of the principles of fairness and justice.

CQ Muar: All I can say, AG Mohamed Apandi Ali, you are a total disgrace to the nation. You have been appointed and paid to prosecute blindly those critics of PM Najib Razak and the opposition without any regard for the nature of the case.

And despite all the scandals involving Najib, you have the audacity to declare him free of wrongdoing.

Anonymous 751951459939378: Apandi, I know, and millions of Malaysians know, that the reason why you were appointed in the first place is your willingness to function as a lackey to your political master.

You don't seem to understand or care what rule of law and justice in a democracy really mean.

Charging Lim under such dubious circumstances with such speed, and being deliberately oblivious to the blatantly corrupt practice allegedly committed by your master is a gross abuse of power.

We all know your master has allegedly plundered RM2.6 billion. For more than a year now, you and your cronies have yet to answer satisfactorily the accusations by The Wall Street Journal.

Apandi, where is your conscience? But you don't seem to care, do you?

Anonymous 1890491455255851: Yes, real shamelessness. How can he look himself in the mirror every day?

Your sense of double standards - one for Najib and one for the rest of the people - is coming across loud and clear.

Anonymous#007: Pardon my ignorance, but is this the same AG who claimed the video evidence of an Umno/Perkasa member in front of Low Yat Plaza who shouted seditious and racist remarks as not sufficient proof?

Is this the same AG who determined, despite the overwhelming evidence and reports of mismanagement/corruption/abuse of power in the 1MDB case, that there was no case?

Well, I wonder now what was the extremely high standard of proof he accepted in his decision to arrest LGE, and what extremely high standard of proof he would require from the prosecution to proceed with the case.

Odysseus: I am impressed with Apandi. He is so fast to act on LGE's case and yet, he sees nothing wrong with the 1MDB scandal.

The world is watching as the 1MDB case slowly appears in courts around the world. Actions have also been taken in these countries. Yet, nothing seems to be moving in this country.

Malaysian Born: It is high time for this issue to be put to bed once and for all. The day that the court or the AG can ride roughshod over due process and justice is long over.

Judges today are aware that all judgments are now under full local and international scrutiny and will reflect on them long before they are able to retire.

This case will be interesting, at the very least.

Headhunter: Lim has no chance, no matter how innocent he is. This is political persecution to the highest order.

He has been too successful to be ignored by Najib. Just like former opposition leader Anwar (Ibrahim).

Vijay47: After his much-deserved rest following his recent exploits, Apandi has once again returned to rally and lead the nation to justice, freedom, democracy, and the Malaysian way of truth.

For an almost run-of-the-mill case of alleged corruption, which a common DPP (deputy public prosecutor) would be able to handle unless given to displays of strangling himself in court, that Apandi has chosen to head the assault must surely mean that the AG is merely extending the courtesy that Guan Eng is entitled to being chief minister of Penang.

In a matter with the remotest link to irregularity, the MACC and Apandi have acted with lightning speed when others caught with fingers in the till, smoking gun in hands dripping in blood and berserk elephants trumpeting in the room, have been ignored in a burst of fatherly tolerance.

Coming to the trial, no doubt with a carefully chosen cast, the only consolation for Guan Eng is that if Apandi conducts himself in the same manner he handled 1MDB, acquittal is a sure thing.
