As far as his initial media statement on the Hudud Bill issue was concerned, Liow Tiong Lai trained his guns on PAS and left Umno out of his crosshairs.
However, Chinese newspapers, which interviewed the MCA president, reported him opening fire on Umno as well.
In these reports, Liow accused Umno of being in cahoots with PAS and betraying the BN spirit.
"MCA will discuss this with other BN component parties," he was quoted as saying by Sin Chew Daily.
Nanyang Siang Pau reported that the MCA president said other BN component parties were in the dark and blamed Umno for creating a constitutional crisis.
Whereas Oriental Daily said he would raise this issue during today's Cabinet meeting and hold a joint press conference with other BN parties to make a united stand.
In a related development, MCA Tanjung Piai MP Wee Jeck Seng was quoted by Chinese newspapers as warning that MCA would quit BN if the bill resurfaced in the next parliament session.
Yesterday, the government had prioritised PAS president Abdul Hadi Awang’s Private Member's Bill to amend Act 355 on the last day of the Dewan Rakyat session.
The bill to amend the syariah court's jurisdiction was slated to be debated in the House in the afternoon but this was postponed upon Hadi’s request for MPs to be given more time to prepare.
The proposal to bring forward Hadi's motion was brought by Minister in the Prime Minister's Department Azalina Othman Said and seconded by Deputy Work Minister Rosnah Abdul Rashid Shirlin.
Speaker Pandikar Amin had allowed the proposal to lift the motion, listed as '15' or the last item in the Parliament's Order Paper despite objection from DAP lawmakers.
Yesterday, PAS Youth chief Nik Abduh Nik Abdul Aziz admitted his party had received cooperation from Umno on this matter.
