Student activists group #LangkahSiswa have announced their next move, known as #1000LangkahSiswa which will see over 1,000 students descending on Parliament.

They group said they will mobilise 1,000 university students from throughout the country to occupy Parliament when the House reconvenes this October.

#LangkahSiswa spokesperson Azzan Aznan said in the meantime, they will be rallying at institutions of higher learning to promote the cause.

He told a press conference outside Bank Negara today the institutions will include public and private universities, university colleges, teacher training institutes and polytechnics.

He added University Malaya and the International Islamic University Malaysia would be their first two destinations.

Azzan also expressed his dissatisfaction with MPs from both the government and opposition for not indicating their support.

“We have sent signals to them but they still did not respond. They know what our demands are and still they did not approach us.

He said students were upset with the government ever since the issue of the RM2.6 billion found in Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak's personal accounts surfaced.

“#1000LangkahSiswa can be the platform for the students to gather together and express their dissatisfaction towards the government,” noted Azzan.

To join Bersih rally tomorrow

Meanwhile, #LangkahSiswa organisers said they will be joining the Bersih 4 rally tomorrow and will converge in front of Bank Negara at 2pm before heading towards Dataran Merdeka.

On Monday, a group of about 20 students had held a demonstration calling on Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak to resign.

Calling themselves 'Gerakan Mahasiswa Selamatkan Negara' (Student Movement to Save the Country), the group and several activists marched about 1.5 kilometres from Bank Negara to Parliament where they camped outside the main entrance.

Following this, on Tuesday night, police arrested 17 of the students ( photo ) and activists -14 men and three women - and remanded them at the Jinjang police station.

Sixteen of them were released after the Kuala Lumpur High Court reduced their remand period from three to two days.

Heng Kiah Chun, being the 17 person detained was released at midnight yesterday after which he lodged a report claiming he was beaten by policemen for taking photos during the protest.
