MIC president G Palanivel held a closed-door meeting with Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak in Putrajaya today.

A close aide to Palanivel, who is also the Natural Resources and Environment Minister, confirmed the meeting which was held around 9am at the prime minister's office.

However, details of the what transpired during meeting was not disclosed.

The meeting held days after Najib tweeted that he would summon Palanivel (photo ) to ask him to explain the latter's statement made during an MIC special gathering at Putra World Trade Centre in Kuala Lumpur.

Palanivel reportedly told thousands of supporters at the special gathering on Saturday, that Najib and BN "got involved in pressuring MIC to reject the party's 2013 election results".

Widespread allegations of malpractice

The MIC internal crisis started following the election of three vice-presidents and 23 central working committee members in 2013, at the party's annual general meeting.

The election, after widespread allegations of malpractice, was declared null and void by the Registrar of Societies (ROS) via a directive on Dec 5, 2014.

Palanivel and his supporters then took the ROS to court to try and reverse its fresh elections order while those against the president filed orders to have the ROS directive carried out.

The High Court has since dismissed two judicial review applications filed by Palanivel and four others to quash the directive of the ROS.

Palanivel suspended deputy president S Subramaniam ( photo ) and one of the party's vice-presidents, M Saravanan.

Subramaniam then announced he had taken over MIC as acting president, saying Palanivel's membership in MIC was automatically revoked the moment he took the Registrar of Societies (ROS) to court without obtaining approval from the CWC.
