YOURSAY 'I saw it coming as early as last year - that there are a few Umno members who are good people. I hope Ku Li would be next.'
Vocal ex-minister Kadir quits Umno
Trueglitter:
We are encouraged the winds of change are now blowing refreshingly over our Malaysian political landscape with resignation of Kadir Sheikh Fadzir, ex-minister and veteran Umno leader for more than 56 years.
We congratulate you Sir, for your bold and honourable decision, acknowledging the fact that you have always been highly regarded and admired for your performance as tourism minister.
Your departure and resignation from a ‘sinking ship' which you've helped keep afloat, explicitly reflects the nobility and chivalry of your own character and admittedly, none of your ex-colleagues have had such inherent virtues and qualities to match your own.
Your calibre of expertise in manner of human management and capacity to deliver on your promises in relation to your professional responsibilities in politics will serve you extremely well if you were to join Pakatan Rakyat, wherein your dedication will be truly appreciated and adequately rewarded.
Tailek: We should not ridicule former tourism minister Kadir Sheikh Fadzir for resigning from Umno. Better late than never and it shows that there is something seriously wrong with that party when a member of 56 years quits.
Let's hope that now Kadir is not subject to Umno's rules and he will spill the beans and tell all about Umno's questionable practices.
Toffeesturn.blogspot.com: The full story of buying votes should be revealed. We must all know how it happened.
Yes, I agree he must not simply be brought into the fold of the opposition just because he has quit Umno.
Let us wait and see what happens. It is good if he quit for the reasons he has given and to know there are those who will stand up to testify to the truth against what has now actually become an illegitimate regime.
FellowMalaysian: He should give a honest no-holds-barred account of what made him do this.
Bystander: Kadir, I salute you for your courage to quit and disassociate with the filth in Umno. Yes, I remembered your contribution in your days as tourism minister and ‘Malaysia Truly Asia'.
Yes, one should realise that money is not everything although it is an essential commodity.
I am proud of you. I saw it coming as early as last year - that there are a few Umno members who are good people. I hope Ku Li (Tengku Razaleigh Hamzah) would be next.
Lover Boy: All he did was speak his mind and the Umno supremacists couldn't stand his view.
So they did what they are so good at, and crucified him as an example. So what else could he do, except to tender his resignation from all posts and ultimately his party membership.
When you are no longer a member, what disciplinary proceedings can Umno take? Kadir saw the Umno boat sinking fast and he abandoned it fast.
Progressive: The tragedy of Kadir is that he was more competent in management and leadership rather than in the art of Umno politics.
Kadir was an exemplary minister of tourism - second to none, both within and without Malaysia. His achievements and innovative ideas are still apparent today after all these years - ‘Malaysia Truly Asia' being one small example.
Having lost in the election for an Umno supreme council seat, he found it appropriate to resign rather than being dropped. Then prime minister Ahmad Badawi let him go, rather than retain a competent minister.
Pakatan should lure him over. Despite his age, he would be a great asset to them and the nation when, not if, Pakatan wins in GE13.
He has many more good years ahead of him. Tan Sri, it's a right move getting away from the rot that has set in in Umno and BN. Congrats!
SMC77: Erm... it doesn't really matter as he is an expired Umno product.
Raja Chulan: Sir, this is a wise decision - a decision that you will never regret. It is never late to make corrections in life.
Umno (Baru) now is not what it was before Dr Mahathir Mohamad. Those days, everyone loved and sacrificed for Umno. Leaders of Umno cared for the people.
Today, Umno leaders use the party to advance their own self. Greed, corruption and abuse of power has crept into the party, thanks to Mahathir.
Don't Play-Play: The hypocrisy among the Pakatan supporters in Malaysiakini forums is very glaring.
They hate and degrade the ‘mamak' and the dark-skinned Penangites who are against LGE (Penang CM Lim Guan Eng) but they seem to be comfortable with this other dark-skinned ‘mamak' as long as he is align with their beliefs.
Sick lot, all of you.
