Batu Pahat may prove to be Soi Lek's Waterloo

YOURSAY 'Johor is no longer BN's fixed deposit. Like their counterparts in most other states, Johor voters too are clamouring for change.'

Batu Pahat likely pick for Soi Lek's comeback

your say Ferdtan: The Chinese in Johor are ready for the 'delayed political tsunami' which eluded them in last 2008 general election. They have seen their fellow Malaysians in other states doing what they didn't do - vote for Pakatan Rakyat.

Now we can expect them to remedy the situation in order to have the type of euphoria they missed after the last election.

We understand that PAS is getting encouraging results, especially in the Felda areas where Anak (Persatuan Anak Peneroka Felda Kebangsaan) under the able leadership of Mazlan Aliman has been active.

These signs augur well for the opposition in the state. Nevertheless, overconfidence is often the recipe for failure.

A Malaysian: I am from Batu Pahat. Times have changed. A few years back, my family, relatives and friends supported MCA chief Dr Chua Soi Lek. But today, I can say it is the complete opposite.

This is due to the fact that everyone has realised how corrupted BN is, especially Umno (also MCA). Voting for MCA equals to voting for Umno.

Cala: I beg to differ from Kuek Ser Kuang Keng's analysis.

If you ask me, why is PM Najib Razak sounding so desperate for support from voters despite the barrage of goodies?

The simple answer - Najib knows that the regime is despised by people so much so that no amount of sweet talk and promises can save its tarnished reputation.

Thus for Chua to rely on his past contributions to Batu Pahat is wishful thinking. BN must be defeated before it can rise again.

Joe Lee: Batu Pahat - a constituency with 53.1 percent Malay, 44.6 percent Chinese and 1.8 percent Indian voters.

This is typical of MCA - the 'defenders' of Chinese interests which is always more comfortable with a seat that has a majority of Malay voters.

Chua will be banking on Umno's strength in Batu Pahat. If he wins, the running dog will be expected to continue to do Umno's bidding, and not representing the real interests of the Chinese Malaysians or other Malaysians.

Anon99: Chua, you must be joking. As the president of a Chinese party, you do not dare to contest in a Chinese-majority seat?

Boonpou: Please, a comeback? I personally don't care if it is Chua or anyone from MCA.

Since the inception of Malaya, then Malaysia, MCA has been nothing but a bunch of Chinese political entrepreneurs.

They have been capitalising on race (read, Chineseness) to solidify their political platform in order to generate their economic gains at the expense of the rest of Chinese Malaysians.

It is all about economic gains. We can no longer be fooled by such gimmicks.

I dare Chua to contest in Batu Pahat, knowing how much the town is triad-controlled. The Chinese Malaysians can no longer be intimidated by such gangster-like politics. Let's send MCA into oblivion.

Karma: Yes, what a way to end Chua Soi Lek's political career. Who can forget the hidden camera in room 1301, Katerina Hotel, Batu Pahat?

He must have thought it was safe to commit adultery in his own home town. He must have done that many times so much so people can put a camera there to record the action.

Trueglitter: Admittedly, all BN campaign strategies and prophecies in the coming GE will come to nothing given the overwhelming anti-establishment sentiments prevailing amongst all voters in the country.

Clearly, it's not surprising leaders in BN and its component parties are scurrying like scared rabbits or chickens without heads in their haste and desperation to negotiate safer seats for their own members.

A Selangor Voter: Chinese Malaysians must decide in GE13 whether someone as morally low as CSL (Chua Soi Lek) should be their leader.

The folks of Batu Pahat have a wonderful chance to tell CSL that. More important, is MCA the guardian of the Chinese? Really, what has it done for the community?

The Chinese are doing well despite the MCA, not because of the MCA, which is an Umno lapdog.

Anonymous: Batu Pahat may prove to be CSL's Waterloo. The sentiments of Batu Pahat voters towards BN have changed.

Johor is no longer BN's fixed deposit. Like their counterparts in most other states, Johor voters too are clamouring for change to build a better Malaysia.

Loyal Malaysian: Bring it on! Yes, if CSL cannot even stand his own ground in his home turf, it is time for MCA to pack its bags. Let the rakyat decide.
