your say 'MCLM will catch the same disease as Hindraf-HRP. If they are not given seats, they will still contest. That is a threat and coercion, and threats and coercion do not work in the long term.'

MCLM names another lawyer as candidate

CLChong: The level of debate in Parliament will tell you what kind of elected members we have from both sides of the spectrum. Enough of their nonsense. Let's get into serious work and thinking of building a strong future. I would trust Malaysian Civil Liberties Movement (MCLM) and vote for them anytime. Not clowns and frogs.

In our quest to make sure Pakatan Rakyat wins, we have forgotten our goals. We have become obsessed and over emotional to a point that it has clouded our judgement.

I wouldn't want to forsake my future voting for people with no clear directions for the nation as what we have experienced in the past few years. I don't believe in BN either. Men with integrity should lead us. Not the ‘kopitiam' characters.

Come on, Malaysians. Malaysia is not just about BN or Pakatan Rakyat. Who the hell cares about these two coalitions? Come out of your coconut shells and vote for deserving candidates and not clowns. You have my vote, MCLM candidates. Way to go.

Rolls-Royce: Talking about quality and integrity, what supposition do you have that those in the Third Force are more credible and have character beyond reproach? In our frustration, we are willing to throw away everything.

I agree that the quality of Pakatan MPs is found wanting and they probably have to work harder and be more mature and comprehensive when presenting views.

But no matter what, we must give a two-party system a go. If Pakatan MPs can be tossed out of Dewan Rakyat like bowling pins, what difference you do think the Third Force people are going to make? Sometimes I feel that this country is cursed by too many self-serving and self-conceited individuals.

Chris: It's a free-for-all in the next general election. We can have BN vs Pakatan Rakyt vs MCLM vs Kita. But in the end, it will be either Pakatan or BN to form government. For those opposition supporters, we need to remain united in order to take over Putrajaya.

Mohd: Why I will not give my vote to MCLM and will dissuade others as well:

1. They have no political background - like it or not, politics is a profession and if you do not know how to play the game, then the rakyat will definitely on the losing side. Idealists do not survive, and I don't want myself and children to suffer further.

2. How do we know these people would not renege on their promisees? What actually are the promises? Remember, there are people with many beliefs and values, and as far as I have seen, this group has similar liberal beliefs, which does not augur well with other people with different beliefs and values.

3. MCLM is no different from any other political party.

4. This group will catch the same disease as Hindraf-HRP, whereby if they are not given seats, they will still contest. This is a threat and coercion, and threats and coercion do not work in the long term.

5. Lawyers will tell the truth as long as they don't open their mouths.

P Dev Anand Pillai: Sreekant Pillai is a very capable lawyer and civil society activist whom I believe will make an excellent candidate come the next general elections. It is people like this whom we need to put into state legislative assemblies and Parliament instead of piano teachers.

It's too bad Malaysians, being as dumb as they are, will always eventually succumb to the BN bait and vote even the shadow of a BN candidate. The Indian voters are heading that way again after having cleared their minds from 53 years of indoctrination in 2008.

Hopefully Malaysians think before they vote. If rights are not important to us Malaysians then don't complain if the chosen government does as it pleases.

Habib RAK: After having followed the first MCLM forum in London live and the second forum in KL in person, I am convinced that they have merits. Based on what I heard today at the forum which was well-attended by many, I am impressed and motivated to play an active role to support MCLM.

I will try and do the necessary as a concerned citizen for the betterment of our beloved nation. The MCLM teams also needs to organise more information sessions for the public to understand them better, because MCLM's approach is new but refreshing.

Aisyah: Only lawyers are stepping up?

Bozo: Not all lawyers make good politicians. Look at the few ex-PKR lawyers like Wee Choo Keong, Zaid Ibrahim, etc. Are they passionate of their job or are they just interested in power? We have a number of social activists who have proven themselves as capable politicians.

I do not care whether they are lawyers or people of other professions, as long as they can serve the rakyat with dedication, sincerity and without fear or favour, I will vote for them.

KSN: The is a good start, and best wishes to MCLM. We, the country, need organisations like MCLM and individuals like Raja Petra Kamarudin, Haris Ibrahim, etc, to bring solutions to the country's cancer.

MCLM has announced two outstanding candidates. Keep on doing that. If PKR and Pakatan are not receptive to MCLM, it is their loss. I believe there is a need to accelerate the process and speed up the announcements of the other candidates so that the voters and people have sufficient time to familiarise with them, especially in the constituencies they are identified with.

Ghkok: I have no doubt those are good candidates. But at this stage of our history, elections in Malaysia is all about political parties. The overriding quest is to end one-party rule so that oppression and tyranny is lifted and the voice of liberty is heard once again in our country.

The highest probability of securing a victory against the overwhelming might of one-party rule, is currently Pakatan. Yes, Pakatan is not perfect. It will never be perfect unless one-party tyranny is ended, unless all the abuse and oppression is ended. That's a fact.

The coalition must be allowed to solidify itself while in government and be infused with more people of calibre who till now are refusing to be involved in opposition politics for fear of abuse and torture. That's common sense.

And once one-party rule has ended, voters must ensure that never again will we allow one party (or coalition) to rule our country for 50 years (not even 20 years if you ask me).

Sabawak: "Haris Ibrahim said many Malaysians living overseas support MCLM's cause and have pledged donations amounting to RM10 million to assist the candidates in their task."

Can you please tell me who these Malaysians living overseas are? And how much of this pledge has ben realised. I have nothing against you and what you are doing, but why did you not propose to do it from within PKR as a 'think tank' of that organisation.

The two candidates you have picked are very fine gentlemen, I have no reason at all to doubt their integrity, I really think they are the finest and if I were to choose I would have chosen them too.

I think very highly of you too Sir, but why work from the outside at this time of all times - it looks like you are trying to throw the spanner into the works.

Multi Racial: I know there are some candidates in Pakatan who are disappointing. But if all of us expect perfection from the opposition front then they are just not being practical. I am okay with MCLM to be set up as a pressure group. I am okay with MCLM to field in candidates in area where Pakatan's candidates are either "not clean" or known to be not capable.

But I do not agree with MCLM fielding candidates in all the constituents for a three-corner fight. In this way, MCLM is helping BN and not Pakatan. Everyone has too look at the bigger agenda, that is, to topple BN from the federal and all state governments.

Anonymous: It is indeed worrying to read that MCLM does not discount the possibility of fielding its own candidates. I believe many people out there are supportive of MCLM only if it could strengthen Pakatan to challenge against the mighty Umno, and brighten up the chances of taking over Putrajaya.

I do hope MCLM would think this over. Never field your candidate as independents even when Pakatan refuses your recommendation. To me, a credible candidate in BN is as good as zero so long Umno is in power.
