vox populi small thumbnail 'How are you planning to pay for these so-called bumiputera privileges? By shouting ‘bumi privileges' at every given opportunity? Is that how bumis are going to live? By rhetoric alone?'

DPM: Fret not, bumi privileges 'protected' in NEM

KSN: Very good, DPM Muhyiddin Yassin. What about non-bumiputera rights under the New Economic Model?

I know being a Malay-first and to reassure the Malays, you had to say that, but who in the government is going to speak for non-Malay Malaysians who have been marginalised until now? Is it not a fair question for you to address?

David Dass: I think it is all right to set up these so-called labs to measure Malay progress in business enterprises as it will be all right for other minority communities to do the same. There is a need to continually monitor the progress of all communities and to adjust policies and to develop programmes to enable those communities who lag behind the others.

The real issue is whether the study methods adopted by these labs are objective and based on facts or whether they are simply used to support political agendas and or the agendas of those with vested interests.

The government should provide incentives for all races to work together in developing business enterprises. And no government contract or project should be given to a company whose shareholding, management and workforce do not represent all the races of Malaysia.

Pemerhati: Muhyiddin Yassin is trying to endear himself to the Malays and hope that his pro-Malay rhetoric will translate into votes for BN. Thanks to the Internet, most urban Malays are aware that he and the other top Umnoputras have used their positions to enrich themselves, their families and their cronies while throwing some crumbs at the still impoverished Malays.

They know about the masterminds behind the Altantuya Shaariibuu murder and the RM500 million kickback from the unnecessary purchase of submarines, and about the billionaire thieves like Mahathir's son (Mirzan), who invests in a haram brewery, while simple local Malays get caned for drinking beer.

They know that the bulk of the RM320 billion estimated to have been lost to corruption since the 1980s would have been stolen by the top Umnoputras. Only the rural Malays, who do not have access to the alternative media, are most likely to be fooled by the BN leaders. The next elections will tell us if Umno can fool most of the Malays all the time.

Bozuka: Umno has not only have failed the poor Malays but also the poor Chinese and the poor Indians. They have only enrich the elite group, their cronies and of course, themselves. How long must we suffer this discrimination among Malaysians?

Anonymous: "It does not need to be said; Malay and bumiputera rights will be protected under the NEM. If you look at it closely, it is all there," he said.

But you need to say it and say it convincing to the Ibrahim Alis and the pseudo-Malay Ridhuan Tees of the world. They have trouble seeing it given their warped minds are impervious to logical and rational reasoning.

DOC: Now that our economy is heading south, partly because foreign investors find Malaysia's discriminatory policies unacceptable, the pendatang along with their Malaysian earning are also leaving the Malaysian shores. Our petroleum reserves are depleting and there are no positive measures by the current government to revive the economy.

So how are you planning to pay for these so-called bumiputera privileges? By shouting ‘bumi privileges! bumi privileges! bumi privileges!' at every given opportunity? Is that how bumis are going to live? On rhetoric alone?

Anonymous2: If that's the case, Muhyiddin, what is the different between NEM and NEP?

Zahrain's PA returns RM1,000 haram money

Albert: Umno Bayan Baru religious affairs bureau Hamid Araby Md Salih said, "Please think again about your role as a Muslim; I want to ask (Abdul Malik Kassim) what kind of skullcap are you using?"

Just one simple question for Hamid Araby. Can he honestly say that all the money used by the government over the past 50 years is "halal" - in the building religious structures, Mara schools, paying Malay civil servants, scholarships, and all other Muslim-related activities, etc?

Hamid Araby and his Umno Malays should realise that sometimes it is better not to be a hero when the odds are against you.

Niat Baik: If you think by resorting to this dirty political game you can win back the Penang government for BN, you can only fool orang-orang kampong. I am not a Muslim, but I know niat (motive) is more important than the actual subject.

On the other hand, a great chunk of the Treasury coffers are taxes received from gaming industry like Genting Malaysia Berhad, 4D, Sports Toto, Magnum, etc, which go to pay the salaries and pensions of Muslims.

Penang Umno, please ask PM Najib Abdul Razak, the finance minister, whether he differentiates these taxes. Otherwise, we'll also end up having haram roads, bridges, schools and mosques, which are also partly funded from the so-called haram money.

Anonymous: Ask the federal government to separate the taxes according to the following sources: 1. Toto, Magnum, Tanjong; 2. Liquor shops; 3. Sale of pork in markets; 4. Genting casino; 5. Restaurants and cafes (liquor; food fried using lard), etc.

Do not also take scholarships funded by "sin" money for your children's university studies. Do not enter buildings (houses, hospitals, schools ) which were/are built using money from the Treasury which may contain tainted money.

Yes, be honest and request the Treasury to separate the funds. But where will the Treasury keep the funds? Under the pillow? Or in banks?

Hibiscus: It is incredible what was intended to be a good thing by the Penang state government can be twisted by politicians, in this case Umno leaders and their supporters. Any person with common sense will immediately see through the purpose of this public show of fuss of returning money is to create unrest.

If it was due to religious conviction, then these fellows would have done it quietly, because one's religious convictions is personal - only between him and his God alone.

Some weeks ago, we saw a picture doctored so that it showed the CM Lim Guan Eng slaughtering cow for Muslims. All these are telling signs that there is sinister plot to destabilise the Penang government through creating racial and religious tension among the rakyat.

I fear that this wickedness will intensify as the days draw nearer to next general elections. These evil politicians seems hell-bent to grab power, no matter what the price, even if it results in destruction and death.

Brainless: Those who are inciting these ordinary folks are those very corrupted millionaires/billionaires, hypocrites of the highest order who would rather see these ordinary simple folks remain poor forever while they plunder the country dry. Shame on you all.

CHRIS T: CM Guan Eng, just do the needful. Take the money back from these so-called holy souls and donate them to old folks homes, animal shelters, orphanages, etc, who understand the true meaning of hunger and gratitude.

Dood: LOL (laughing out loud). These Umno/BN folks can get pretty creative and theatrical when it comes to play-acting.

Dr M admitted to hospital in Melbourne

Pure Malaysian: No matter how Dr Mahathir Mohamad has been all this while, I believe as Malaysians, we must wish him well soon.

In war, we must have equality and fairness, although we know Mahathir has not been fair to most of us. Without him, Malaysia would seem a little dull and boring. I wish you well, Mahathir, and hope you could stay on until you see the 13th general election's results.

Wira: Why should cabinet minister Mustapa Mohamad address the seminar on Mahathir's behalf? Dr M is no longer the PM.

Sincere Citizen: Melbourne doctors, please don't leave a bucket in front of the old man for he might just kick it.
