The parliamentary seat of Seputeh in the Federal Territory will see a contest between a former Democratic Action Party (DAP) stalwart and his former party colleague, setting the ground for an interesting test of Malaysian political affiliations.

Incumbent Liew Ah Kim has been contesting in the constituency on a DAP ticket in the past three general elections and winning. This time around, Liew will be defending his seat under the banner of the newly-formed Malaysian Democratic Party (MDP), challenged by DAP's Teresa Kok Suh Sim.

Seputeh will test the Malaysian public's voting sentiments, which have tended to favour political parties over individual candidates.

"I am unsure of the community's perception of my new party but I think I can win,"said Liew. He believes he has the advantage over DAP in terms of experience and his long service to the constituency as he has defended the Seputeh seat for three terms since 1986.
