Journalists irked by 'hijacking' of space in Dewan Rakyat press room
ADS

Journalists covering Dewan Rakyat proceedings today were surprised to discover that one-fifth, unfortunately the most popular section, of the press room had been taken over by the Information Ministry.

The intention, however, was noble to promote relations between the government and the press and to facilitate better information flow between the media and Parliament.

In the space where a sofa once stood allowing journalists to lounge and rest their eyes on the panoramic view of the car-park lined with beautiful pine trees are two tables and a photocopy machine.

There is a staff member on duty to ensure sufficient copies of written replies from the government and to arrange for interviews with members of the house. However, it is uncertain whether the service would be extended to contact with opposition MPs as well.
