One worker was killed and six others injured in a fire at a Petronas refinery plant in Terengganu, the official Bernama news agency said today.
The fire happened at the national oil corporation's Petroliam Nasional Bhd (Petronas) Kertih gas refinery plant early today while the workers were carrying out routine maintenance and repair work.
Terengganu state police chief Othman Talib identified the dead man as Salehuddin Ibrahim, 30.
"While they were carrying out their work, a flame suddenly shot out. There was no explosion," he said.
Othman said it took firefighters and Petronas workers 30 minutes to control the blaze.
All the injured have been hospitalised at the local state hospital, he said, adding that the condition of three of them was serious.
Othman said the workers belonged to a local company, Chemical Solution Sdn Bhd, which was carrying out the maintenance work.
