I refer to the letter Fomca, please leave our beloved Taiping alone .
Dear Taiping Fanatic,
Since I left Taiping in 1993, I have never failed to return at least once a month as my heart has always been there. Your letter clearly shows that here is a puppeteer behind you, instigating you to write anonymously.
The issue in Bukit Larut is purely on water catchment areas, landslide and the impact of development on its sensitive environment.
Where were you when Fomca was fighting hand-in-hand with the Taiping Consumers Association, ERA Consumer and many Taipingnians in 1997 against the RM200 million project to ‘rape’ Bukit Larut?
Where were you when they wanted to turn Taiping Lake Gardens into a golf resort? Where were you when we opposed the cable car project in 2007? I never read your comments anywhere.
There are many issues Fomca has raised; you probably need to read the newspapers more. We are doing our job nationwide. You are also welcome to visit this site where you can see the Biological Report on Bukit Larut following 1997 issue.
Development cannot just come through a cable car project. There have been so many new development projects in Larut, Matang and Selama in Perak in the past and even now under the new government. How much more you want the new government to destroy?
Our reference to the Department of Environment (DOE) proves that a Detailed Environment Impact Assessment of the cable car project on Bukit Larut has not been done.
The DOE has no jurisdiction to request for one and there is a loophole in Environment Quality Act 1974 for hillside development.
We are fighting nationwide for everyone to protect our future. Bukit Larut is the treasure of Taiping. Save it from being destroyed.
Don’t sell you soul to the devil. Next time use your name and when I drop by Taiping I can explain all the activities done by Fomca nationwide in many locations.
The writer is president, Federation of Malaysian Consumers Associations (Fomca).
