Fresh graduates face various hurdles when seeking employment
ADS

LETTER | Fresh graduates face an immediate hurdle when applying for jobs, which continues after being called for interviews. Having gone through the biodata part of the resume, the next question that usually pops up during a job interview is whether the candidate has any relevant experience.

The job applicant usually says no and the possible outcome of the interview will be that the applicant is not successful. This scenario has been faced by countless fresh graduates and trainees.

Nowadays most graduates are computer and IT savvy which is often sought by employers. The next step will be learning or receiving training which can be completed within a stipulated time frame to enable the person to do work effectively. Now that most office work is computerised fresh graduates can be trained easily and quickly.

The interviewers, mostly middle-aged senior officers of the company, should spare a thought for the fresh graduates. They possibly faced the same situation when they were fresh young job-seekers.

Today's graduates can quickly pick up the essentials and serve the employer. If not they can be dismissed after the probation period. The probation period could also serve as a good time frame for fresh graduates to prove themselves worthy of the job.
