LETTER | Recently, I came to know of a case of two young women from Sarawak who were duped into going to Johor Bahru, where they were forced to work in a night club.

They were told that they had to fork out RM10,000 for their release; otherwise, they have to continue working at the night club. This was, of course, against their will and their religion.

After I forwarded the messages to several senior police officers seeking their help, the advice given was that the friends and relatives of the girls should lodge a police report.

For one whole night, there were exchanges of messages between individuals unknown to me based in Sarawak and one police officer based at an airport in Malaysia.

In less than 24 hours, the agent who recruited them was arrested and the two girls were rescued by the police who conducted a raid.

I must compliment the police for their efficiency in handling the case.

Just this afternoon, I was informed by the OCPD in my district that he had forwarded my WhatsApp messages to his counterpart in Johor Bahru.

I wish to take this opportunity to thank all the police officers concerned.

I decided not to name them here, as I do not know the implications if their identities were revealed. At the same time, I have to protect my identity for now.

However, I wish to encourage my fellow Malaysians to support a worthy cause and not play the proverbial three monkeys by not getting involved in helping the police. Together, we fight crime!
