Suspend Bung Moktar without pay and allowance

LETTER | Why is Kinabatangan MP Bung Moktar Radin allowed to say what he pleases in the Dewan Rakyat? Is this also part of the free speech championed by the Pakatan Harapan government?

This is not the first time he has said something crass, insensitive or "unparliamentary". There were several such incidents in the past.

Back in 2008, He offended the disabled community when he asked the late Karpal Singh to “stand up” to respect the house knowing very well that the then Jelutong MP was paralysed from waist down.

In 2014, he exclaimed “Long Live Hitler” on Twitter when Germany won the World Cup. Even if he said it in jest, I think he was totally indifferent of the atrocity committed during Hitler’s era.

His sexist remarks are just as insensitive. He once uttered the infamous “bocor” remark directed at a female MP when she complained about the leaking Parliament roof, while on another sitting, he commented about an MP's skirt being too short.

Let's not forget, he pleaded guilty to entering into a polygamous marriage without the Syariah Court's consent.

While he was previously caught on camera sneakily making obscene hand gestures inside the Dewan when attention was not on him, yesterday's tirade that included the "F word" was loud and clear.

Enough is enough. I think it is about time he is made accountable for his antics.

Suspend him for a year or so without pay and allowance.

I am sure we do not need an MP who contributes nothing but distraction and disruption.

What kind of message are we sending to the people if nothing is done to contain his invectives?

He was got away under the speaker of the previous government but now, we have a new government, a new parliament and a new speaker.

Are we going to make a genuine change?
