It is just hard to put into words the feelings and thoughts one has at a time like this, at the passing of the nation's First Lady.

But to the thousands whose hearts Endon Mahmood has touched in more ways than one the loss is immense and hurting.

As a young lad growing up in Butterworth in the 60s, I had known her and the encouragement she gave was measureless.

I can vouch that she was 'larger than life', a loving and supportive wife to Prime Minister Abdullah Ahmad Badawi, through the difficult and challenging times of his political career.

She was an affectionate mother, supportive but firm in her advice to all under her, always articulate and positioned in her thinking to all who sought it.

To many of us whose lives she touched, she has left the strength and courage to face life's many challenges and not be found wanting.

Kak Endon, we will certainly miss you.
