Msian police should learn from Hong Kong
ADS

I was part of a peaceful demonstration today with more than 200,000 people in Hong Kong to protest against Article 23 - an anti-subversion law.

I was moved by the peaceful atmosphere at the demonstration, and pray that one day this will happen in my beloved country Malaysia.

I was particularly struck by the presence of very few police officers.

They were there to control the traffic and help organisers to provide instructions to the demonstrators during the march. Businesses were open as usual and people were shopping while we were demonstrating.

There was a pro-government fun-fair near to the gathering place of the demonstration with the intention to physically occupy the place so that many protestors could not be accommodated.

Nevertheless, they proceeded with their recreation, while we continued our prayers for freedom and democracy in Hong Kong.

What kind of training the Malaysian police force have been given? Perhaps they should come to Hong Kong.

We were often told that the Chinese are indifferent to politics, social issues, and are not willing to go to streets. But Hong Kong has proved them wrong.
