Not bumi vs non-bumi, but Malaysia vs World

I share the same sentiments with the writer of PM was right about 'foreigners' label .

If one looks up the Ministry of Entrepreneur Development's website, one will find that virtually 90 percent of the funds are reserved for bumiputra as if only they need the fund to survive the tough economic environment.

Last year when the Outline Perspective Plan additional budget of RM3 billion was announced, the bulk of it went to infrastructure projects to salvage troubled bumiputra contractors. All small and medium industries and enterprises (SMI/SME) were neglected though they are the main forex earner as the majority are export-oriented.

Chinese schools have even to be built by the community with private donations. Indirectly, this is a form of additional 'taxation' on the community.

Further, all bumiputra are entitled to a discount on new houses, even for bungalow units, as if this is a constitutional right.

In reality, there are two economies in the country — one bumiputra and the other non-bumiputra.

The current university admissions show a big drop in non-bumiputra applicants but this may be because many students have given up hope of entering local universities because of the biased selection system. Or worse, they may have despaired of the drop in the standards of local universities and chose to study elsewhere if they could afford it.

I feel we are being sidelined to second-class citizenry and are being discriminated against affirmatively under the pretext of narrowing the economic gap between the communities according to racial lines.

If the non-bumiputra population drop to 15 percent, our economy may no longer be able to sustain all the bumiputra subsidies and handouts, and our beloved nation may end up being another Indonesia.

The government has to face the reality that in the globalised environment, it is no longer bumiputra versus non-bumiputra but Malaysia versus World. The only way to face that threat is to be competitive and we should start training now on the homefront.
