Immoral income gap in Maybank
ADS

We refer to the Malaysiakini report, ‘NUBE decries imbalance in Maybank salaries’ .

It mentioned an earlier Bernama report which quoted Maybank as stating that NUBE had rejected the performance-related bonus scheme.

NUBE would like to categorically state that Maybank is lying to and misleading the public. There is a provision for a performance-related bonus scheme within the provisions of the collective agreement.

Nothing precludes any bank from engaging with NUBE and paying a performance bonus to employees.

The contractual bonus is part of the contractual fixed salary component and has been in existence for decades. Maybank is mischievously misleading the public as it has no defence for its immoral actions in denying the lower income group what is rightfully theirs.

The astronomical divide in wages is not justifiable and Maybank, as a government-linked company (GLC), is leading the market in widening the income divide.

The writer is general-secretary of the National Union of Bank Employees (NUBE).
