Khairy, put Umno's interests first - resign now
ADS

I refer to the Malaysiakini report KJ's election: Dr M spews venom .

Rarely do I agree with what Dr Mahathir Mohamad says. But on this occasion, I agree with him totally.

Already public perception of Umno and BN by extension is totally negative. Most of the people believe that the powers-that-be are making use of their position to amass wealth for themselves, their children and families.

As if that is not enough, rumours of scandals involving Najib Abdul Razak have been circulating on the Internet and amongst the rakyat .

He is being accused of being involved in the Altantuya scandal while a senior PKR leader has alleged that he offered RM50 million by Najib to jump ship to BN. This has not been challenged by Najib himself.

Now with Khairy Jamaluddin proven to be involved in money politics by none other that Umno's very own disciplinary board, public perception of Umno as a party infested with corrupts is further reinforced.

To make matters worse, Khairy was elected to the highest office of Umno Youth.

Although it is of no concern to Khairy's supporters, it matters a lot to the public. It is an accepted norms that who ever holds the Umno Youth chief’s post is destined to lead our beloved country. We cannot afford to have a leader proven guilty of money politic to lead us.

In the US, such a politician will not see the light of his political future let alone get elected to one of the highest offices in the party.

The public cannot be faulted if they form the following conclusions based on Khairy's victory in securing the top post in the Umno Youth wing:

1. There are two sets of rules in Umno, just like how the public perceives there are two sets of laws for them- one for the well-connected and the other for the poor and powerless.

2. Umno is not serious about wiping out money politics.

3. Najib will face an uphill task in tackling corruption because in his midst there is already one proven guilty by Umno’s very own disciplinary board..

I used to read that almost every leader in Umno would stress that they are not important, but the party is. They would place Umno and the Malays' interest above self.

Khairy, this is the time to prove your worth. Resign from your party’s post, rather than hang on to it and contaminate the good name of the party. Place Umno and the nation's interest above your own .

We have had enough of leaders with a suspected tainted past. Adding one more with proven guilt will definitely hasten Umno's road to the bins of history.
