TASKS AND RESPONSIBILITIES:-<ul><li>Attend press conferences, court proceedings, council meetings, press conferences and</li></ul>other events as and when required;<ul><li>Aid the Malaysian public in making informed choices</li><li>Seeking out news and taking it out to the public as quickly as possible;</li><li>Interviewing people via telephone or personally;</li><li>Respond to tip-offs, calls, and news releases</li><li>Gather and produce notes</li><li>Adhere to deadlines and prioritize on getting exclusive stories out ahead of the competition</li><li>Hold power to account - ensure those in authority are held accountable at all times</li><li>Stimulate healthy policy discussions</li></ul> KEY PERFORMANCE INDICATOR (KPI) - <ul><li>Demonstrated abilities to produce quality stories:-</li></ul><ul><li>Accurate information</li><li>Fair and just</li><li>Relevant to Malaysiakini</li></ul><ul><li>Demonstrated abilities to seek and produce multiple stories in a given working day - a minimum of 3 stories per day</li><li>Demonstrated abilities to produce stories within a timely manner - breaking stories are captured and published first by Malaysiakini</li><li>Continuously maintained annual attendance record within a healthy level</li><li>Demonstrated high level of compliance towards company policies and procedures</li><li>Demonstrated ability to gather and maintain contacts/source of stories</li><li>Demonstrated ability to tackle analytical aspects - excellent in summarising technicalities of a story/information after an assignment</li></ul>

The Journalist will be responsible for seeking out news and take it out to the public as quickly as possible and adhere to deadlines and prioritize getting exclusive stories out ahead of the competition.
