Vale, a global leader in sustainable mining, reaffirms its commitment to nurturing exceptional talent in Manjung, Perak with the rollout of the third edition of the Teluk Rubiah Scholarship Programme (TRSP). Building on the success of its earlier editions, TRSP continues to focus on giving Manjung’s top students access to world-class tertiary education.

TRSP is designed to offer high achievers and top scorers in the Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia (SPM) exams the opportunity to pursue their education at Monash University Malaysia, a globally recognized university, equipping them with the skills, experience, and global outlook needed to build a stronger, more sustainable future while preparing them for a career in the mining industry.

Open to students who are Manjung born and bred, the programme signifies Vale’s long-term commitment to supporting growth and opportunities for the local community. In addition to tuition fees, the scholarship also covers living expenses, accommodation, laptop, and related academic costs such as books, visas, and flights.

According to Leonardo Paiva, Chief Executive Officer of Vale in Malaysia, the third edition of TRSP is a cornerstone of Vale’s inclusive development vision in Manjung. “Our youth are the heartbeat of this district. Through TRSP, we aim to equip them with the skills, exposure, and values needed to thrive in a global career while contributing to sustainable development,” he said. “This programme is not just about education; it is about shaping leaders who will drive progress within Manjung and beyond.”

Applications are now until 16th May 2025, through Vale’s website, https://vale.com/teluk-rubiah-scholarship-programme-trsp. Follow scholar Al Syaier An Nur Fielzah Shah Affendi as she shares the step-by-step application process.

To date, Vale has awarded scholarships to 5 recipients, who are pursuing studies in the field of Accounting/Finance and Mechanical Engineering. This year, up to three scholars will be selected to join the programme. Candidates must demonstrate strong academic achievements and a passion for building future careers in the respective fields. Upon successful completion of their tertiary studies, scholars will also be assessed for employment at Vale which has presence in close to 30 countries.

TRSP forms one of the key pillars under Vale’s Youth Empowerment Plan (YEP@Vale) for Manjung which sees it investing RM4 million between 2023 and 2025. Over the past decade, Vale has invested nearly MYR70 million into social initiatives across Manjung, anchored by the establishment of the Teluk Rubiah Maritime Terminal (TRMT). Built to safely handle up to 25 million tonnes of iron ore annually, TRMT remains the largest foreign direct investment (FDI) in Perak, operated predominantly by a Malaysian workforce, with many talents drawn from Manjung itself.

Through programmes like TRSP, Vale is reiterating its commitment to Manjung—ensuring that local youth and future generations have the skills and opportunities to thrive. It also reflects Vale’s ongoing belief that the future belongs to those willing to imagine, innovate and lead.
